Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered numerous engaging independent titles. But, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer includes a character that is truly a turd attempting to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: you only need a one button to leap. Throughout 150 levels, you'll face boss fights and access a shop to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Plan your jumps carefully, since one error forces restarting the level. Jump using floating orbs to launch yourself upward, cross disappearing ledges, and touch buttons to open new areas. Gather UN-KOINS for buying tougher levels in which the action ramps up.
In terms of design, the demo features eye-catching level designs and an amazing background music. The simple graphics of morphing basic polygons evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to think of other games where you control a piece of feces, video games often incorporated toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme shows up extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already received significant awards, including winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is ready at present on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on PC on November 19.
